(New) Music at Home

concerts
in the Šamorín synagogue
( 2003 – 2009 )

The (New) Music at Home project was founded on the joint initiative of Daniel Matej (for the Slovak section of the ISCM) and Csaba Kiss (for the At Home Gallery) with the aim of creating a cycle of concerts in the magical environment of the former synagogue in Šamorín, which would give the public the opportunity to encounter on a regular basis different forms of “contemporary” and “past” music; the criterion for choosing the repertoire was to present music for which “novelty”, and thus “topicality” in any sense of the word, would be the basic characteristic (its true – historical – age understandably played no role in this case).

During the seven-year period in which this event was held (2003–2009), the public thus had the opportunity to discover, alongside the music of J. S. Bach, F. Couperin, W. A. Mozart, D. Scarlatti and other Baroque and Classicist composers, the work of important 20th and 21st century music composers (J. Cage, E. Brown, M. Feldman, A. Piazzolla, S. Reich, G. Scelsi, K. Stockhausen etc.), as well as the work of contemporary Slovak composers (M. Burlas, J. Hatrík, I. Hrušovský, M. Lejava, D. Matej, B. Milakovič, J. Sixta, J. Vajó, M. Varga and others) in exceptionally high-class performances by Slovak and foreign soloists and ensembles (such as the Amadinda Percussion Group, Anne La Berge, don@u.com, James Fulkerson, Enikő Ginzery, Zoltán Gyöngyössy, Rajmund Kákoni, Boris Lenko, Lotz trio, Musica aeterna, OVER4tea, Eugen Prochác, Solamente naturali, Tibor Szemző, VAPORI del CUORE, the VENI ensemble etc.).
