Contemporary Wednesdays

young music
for a youthful audience
( 2003 – 2004 )

“Contemporary Wednesdays” came about with the specific aim of presenting various genres and creators of contemporary music to young people in their own environment. It was held in the premises of the University Pastoral Service of Comenius University in the grounds of the university halls of residence. Its intention was to provide a podium for young composers and participating artists, and also to open up the world of new music to young listeners through the accompanying spoken word. It thus had an important educational dimension. The successful cycle included Ivan Buffa’s premiere of his Sonata for piano, and Egon Krák’s RE-MI string quartet. In each series of concerts, there was one concert with music of a different genre, and so visitors could hear the Pressburger Klezmer Band and also the flamenco group Los Remedios.
